The Peace of God
“It was a Dark and Stormy night,” the familiar phrase that starts many good stories. But for some, life may really feel that way. The Word of God teaches about the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, it is this peace that keeps our minds in the mist of the storm. Many assume that being a child of Christ, storms won't come, things wouldn't happen, and that everything would be alright. The truth is everything will be alright, but storms will come [Matt: 7:24-27]. Paul wrote in to the Romans, “All things work together for good for them that love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose” The real question is how do we get this peace of God? It is through prayer and fasting, whether life is all good, or the storm is forever current in our life, we need to reach out to God where we are. Remembering what He has promised and that he that comes to God must first believe that He is.
The process behind prayer and fasting, is actually a simple one, you just have to do it in humility and start where ever you are in your life. Jesus said “...that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Prayer is preparation, it is like a soldier that prepares for war, you can't prepare for war during the time of war, lest your enemy gains an upper hand on you. You start your basic training before there is a battle, so when the battle comes you will be able to fight and can handle it. So likewise when you pray, you prepare your spirit man to hear God in this mist of the battle that you may be able to stand.
Fasting is the same way, it a spiritual cleansing, a battle between the will of God and the will of self. Paul wrote “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would” [Gal 5:17]. In it’s basic sense, it is the process of going [sacrificing] without food for certain amount of time. But spiritually it is a daily fleshly death and a consecration to God, so that your spirit can be increase, setting aside worldly thing and taking hold the manifested will of God in your life.
Even though it is better to start praying and fasting before the storms hit your life, most times to be honest we don't schedule bad times. But God can meet you in the mist of the storms, or may already be on the ship, and when you start crying out like the disciples did, Jesus Christ can speak into the storms of your life and say “Peace be still.” Having you questioning even to yourself, “What manner of man is this that even the Winds and Storms of life must obey.”
So remember, it is very important to have your faith in God, even through the storm. No matter what is going on in your life. Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Because it is the Peace of God, which passeth all understanding, and shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Be blessed.
